Loutro is the tiny village hidden in a cove only four miles west of Sfakia in south west Crete.
Protected from all the winds and the sea there is nothing left to disturb your tranquility in Loutro.
We must not forget the absence of cars since there is no road leading anywhere, but do not despair. Should you wish absolutely a land connection, there is a cliff path along the sea that takes you to Sfakia (4 miles) passing through the picturesque beach of Glyka Nera (sweet waters).
Take the local frequent ferries from Sfakia or Paleohora, running several times a day, to arrive in Loutro.
No big hotels or grand restaurants, no noisy bars and loud music. Just small family hotels and restaurants serving tasty, local great food.
As for activities, you can start with doing nothing, relaxing by the water with a book at hand or, put on your gear and start endless walks along the coast. Stop at tiny beaches on the way for a swim (Marmara, Glyka Nera, Finikas, Lykos) or continue as far as Agia Roumeli at the Samaria Gorge unless you prefer to walk through Aradaina Gorge.
If walking is not exactly your scene get a boat taxi to visit all these places. Do not forget to arrange the time the taxi will return to pick you up.
The decisions are yours and the options are many.
One thing is certain, you will never be bored in Loutro.
Have a great time.
