Honey, one of the most important products of Crete, wouldn't be what it is without the wealth of fragrant plants and herbs thriving on the island of Crete.

Honey first appeared in ancient times.

One of the most important finds from the Minoan era is the golden charm with two facing bees, which indicates that beekeeping activity existed already. Honey replaces sugar as a sweetener in Cretan cuisine, and is very often combined with dairy products.

The most popular types are thyme and pine and thyme honey, which are very fragrant and also very beneficial to human health.
